Vicky Vaughn Shea
As the owner of Ponderosa Pine Design in Reno, Nevada, I’m passionate about working with publishers, editorial teams, and/or authors to create book designs that best complement a topic. Over the years, I have designed covers and interiors for hundreds of books of all types from beginning to end. I specialize in coffee table history books and corporate books, cookbooks, guidebooks, and children’s books. My portfolio shows a good variety of my design work.
I also have an extensive network—collaborating with freelance photographers, illustrators, libraries, museums, stock houses, and private collectors—and I bring to the table a diverse working knowledge of books and book design. I am also extremely knowledgeable about the 4-color process, having been on press in the US and Asia.
For the Love of Books
Book design is my passion. I started my career as a graphic designer and art director for ad agencies, but when I discovered book design, I found my true calling. I love books.
Staying Up on the Game
I have won several Benjamin Franklin awards from the Independent Book Publishers Association and a PubWest design award. As a member of PubWest, I attend their conference every year. I also regularly attend Adobe Max and/or CreativePro conferences annually to stay current on all the creative tools I need to make beautiful books.
